Our co-founders have both accomplished many accolades in their careers, including highlights such as Holding CIO and CTO positions at two of the big four banks in South Africa for over 17 years, becoming one of the youngest executive directors at one of the big four banks in South Africa, and many more compelling achievements. They are both firm believers in the growth potential of South Africa; this is embodied by their investment of resources, including personal time, to develop graduates and small businesses. Since 1 March 2019 to date, they have invested 30% of their gross profit in training, growing, and investing in on-demand economics black-owned companies.

Kume Luvhani
Co-founder and Executive Director

Kume has a passion for strategy, finance, and innovation, which was integral to co-founding Vaxowave. She has held various positions in her career, one of which was being appointed as a director at Absa Bank at the age of 29.

She is a passionate advocate for literacy programmes in South Africa, developing youth and talented women in leadership. She helps to equip rural schools with essential school supplies, dedicates a large portion of her free time to mentoring young people, and often speaks in forums aimed at empowering and promoting women in leadership.

She is an advisory board member of the Wired for Women Board, which is the brainchild of BCX and Brainstorm. A platform for all, which brings women in the Tech sector together, to address the issues of the profession and the challenges women face and how to overcome those challenges and build solutions that are long term to empower females in the workplace

She holds a Honours degree in Accounting Sciences and is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA,CGMA).

Peter Rix
Co-founder and Executive Director

Peter’s passion and love for new-age technology led to him co-founding Vaxowave.

Peter’s career in technology started in the telecommunication industry, followed by various senior management roles at both Dimension Data and Internet Solutions. For 17 years, Peter was firmly rooted in the financial services industry working for both Standard Bank and Absa Bank, where he held CIO and CTO roles.

He is a firm believer in the growth potential of Africa and embodies this by investing his time in providing opportunities for the development of graduates and interns. In addition to his passion for giving back, he is an avid speaker and has presented at numerous industry initiatives including a keynote speaker at the AWS Summit in Cape Town, South Africa. In 2017 he was nominated as an Institute of Information Technology Professionals of South Africa (IITPSA) Visionary CIO finalist.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree supplemented with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a long-standing member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Karen Williams
Operations Executive

Karen has an extensive history in financial services, which has seen her fulfil various roles in banking, insurance, and a stint with the South African Revenue Services. The roles she fulfilled started in finance, however her desire to understand the bigger picture, spurred her to move into the operations side of the business. She has been responsible for setting and executing strategy in various banking environments and specialises in business administration. In recent years, she has been instrumental in driving innovation initiatives.

She is passionate about the development of young people in technology and business, which has led to her involvement in various programmes inside and outside her working environment.

She holds degrees in Accounting, Business Management & Marketing, and is an MBA graduate from the University of Pretoria.

Lawrence Reddy
Cloud Chief Technology Officer

Lawrance has over 24 years’ experience in the field of IT, technology, and innovation. In 2017, he became the first Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) in South Africa for Microsoft Azure. His time is often spent mentoring cloud technologists and advocates and he is always active in community projects, conferences, and sharing seminars to drive cloud adoption and to create change agents through leadership, cloud, sharing and exploration. His Cloud for Social Good initiatives through conferences, workshops, boot camps & non-profit special projects is helping to raise the awareness of positive social change through cloud.

His career spans various senior technical roles, including stints at Unilever, Microsoft, RewardsCo, and as Technical director and founder of Cloud Logic.

He believes in using technology and the cloud for the good of society, nature, and mankind and is involved in many environmental initiatives such as anti-poaching activities with the Peace Parks Foundation with whom he dedicates his time, expertise, and technical direction.

He holds various licences and certifications from the ML Sultan Technikon; Dell EMC and Microsoft.

The Good We Do

Yummytummysa.com is one of our many community service initiative projects we have undertaken to support our community by providing the organisation with an e-commerce website hosted on AWS, to allow them to grow their business by provide nutritious meals for their customers.

AlphaInnovate.io is one of our many investments that we have undertaken to support the growth of SME technology companies in South Africa. We work closely with them to build up strong capabilities in Amazon Web Services, supporting them with mentoring, training, and coaching.
