Karen has an extensive history in financial services, which has seen her fulfil various roles in banking, insurance, and a stint with the South African Revenue Services. The roles she fulfilled started in finance, however her desire to understand the bigger picture, spurred her to move into the operations side of the business. She has been responsible for setting and executing strategy in various banking environments and specialises in business administration. In recent years, she has been instrumental in driving innovation initiatives.

Kume Luvhani

Kume is the executive director of Vaxowave, a company she co-founded in 2018, following an illustrious career at one of the largest banks in South Africa. She is a Harvard Business School Senior Executive Program – Africa (SEPA) alumni; holds an Honours degree in Accounting Sciences and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Kume has also won many accolades for exceptional performance throughout her educational and professional careers.
Peter Rix
CO-FOUNDER
Peter’s career in technology started in the telecommunication industry, followed by various senior management roles at both Dimension Data and Internet Solutions. For 17 years, Peter was firmly rooted in the financial services industry working for both Standard Bank and Absa Bank, where he held CIO and CTO roles. Peter’s passion and love for new-age technology led to him co-founding Vaxowave.

Penny finished university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Psychology with a particular passion for combining the two sciences. She has spent much of the last twenty years working within financial services, having spent 9 years at Standard Bank, 5 years at Absa and another three years at African Bank. Within Absa, fulfilled the role of the CIO of the Retail and Business Banking division. At African Bank, Penny served as the Group CIO.
Lawrance Reddy

Lawrance has over 24 years’ experience in the field of IT, technology, and innovation. In 2017, he became the first Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) in South Africa for Microsoft Azure. His time is often spent mentoring cloud technologists and advocates. He is always active in community projects, conferences, and seminars where he shares the drive to cloud adoption and to creating change agents through leadership, cloud, sharing and exploration. His Cloud for Social Good initiatives through conferences, workshops, boot camps & non-profit special projects are helping to raise the awareness of positive social change through cloud. His career spans various senior technical roles, including stints at Unilever, Microsoft, RewardsCo, and as Technical director and founder of Cloud Logic.
Lucien da Silva
AWS PRACTICE LEAD
Lucien is our AWS Cloud Lead with 13 years’ experience in the IT industry comprising of Cloud Engineering, Architecture & DevOps with a focus on understanding customers journeys in the cloud and enabling teams to achieve the full benefits of building on cloud platforms. He has attained a Masters Networking Engineer qualification as well as various AWS Certifications. He has spent time working for AWS where he played a key role in assisting AWS clients undertake cloud migrations. He has deep experience as a Cloud Solutions Architect having supported and has played an instrumental role for various clients in this role.
